ABOUT

KATRINA SCHAMAN
Katrina Schaman is a Canadian painter from Toronto, Ontario. Born in Kitchener in 1982, Katrina has always felt a great desire to create. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours from Queen's University and currently works from a private studio in downtown Toronto. She had been a member of Walnut Studios until it was destroyed by fire and severe smoke damage during the Victoria Day Weekend of 2018.
Katrina grew up admiring and being inspired by many of Canada's traditional landscape artists and over time she has developed her own unique style, combining acrylic paint, graphite and spray paint with hand-cut textured paper which she describes as 'Canadian art with a whimsical twist'. |
Katrina Schaman's landscape paintings celebrate the deep underlying relationship between abstract and real forms. Always enjoying preliminary sketches and drawings Katrina has set out to create work that balances the free movement and simplicity of a graphite drawing with the rich colour and intricacies of paint and textured paper. She puts a lot of extra effort into all the final accents and details on all her pieces because she hopes these little intricacies will add to the feeling of whimsy and magic for the viewer.
Katrina strives to create work that will change and grow for a viewer - whether it's the first or hundredth time they see it, the artist hopes that people will continue discovering new forms, feelings and ideas within her work. |
